Copilot & Onedrive

Microsoft Is Trimming OneDrive Copilot Actions from File Explorer

If your office runs Windows with OneDrive, the right-click menu in File Explorer is about to get shorter. Microsoft is retiring eight OneDrive Copilot actions from that menu. The change rolls out from mid-November through early December, so it will land on different machines at different times.

The features themselves are not being killed. Microsoft is moving them out of the right-click menu; the same capabilities remain available through OneDrive and Copilot in their other locations. This is a placement change, not a product cancellation.

Why would Microsoft pull features it spent the last two years promoting? Right-click menus collect clutter fast, and every vendor wants a spot in them. Actions that few people use tend to get cut so the menu stays usable. It is also a fair guess that Microsoft would rather have people open Copilot deliberately than bump into it in a context menu. Either way, the practical effect for your team is small but worth a heads-up, because menu changes generate “where did it go” questions at exactly the moment someone is in a hurry.

What to expect:

The OneDrive Copilot entries in the File Explorer right-click menu will disappear over the next several weeks, machine by machine.

Nothing about your files, sharing settings, or OneDrive sync changes. This is the menu only.

If someone on your team actually used one of those actions, the same task can still be done from OneDrive on the web or in the Copilot app. It may take a day of mild annoyance to build the new habit.

No action is required from IT beyond telling people it is coming. Updates like this are a good reminder to keep your team informed before small changes roll out, since a short note now prevents a round of help desk tickets later.

At KD Global Services we track changes like this across the platforms our clients use every day, and we flag the ones that will actually touch your workflow. Most are minor, like this one. The value is in hearing about them before your staff does.
